Saturday, April 20, 2013 Valley City/Liverpool Township Fire Department is pleased to announce that their initial outdoor warning sirens are now operational. The two sirens are the first of a total of seven sirens that will be installed in the Township as part of an integrated warning network. The sirens were purchased by Liverpool Township tax dollars and a grant from the Department of Homeland Security administered by the Medina County EMA. The initial price for all the hardware and software for the two units was $ 50,570.00. The federal grant was for $ 22,420.00. The warning sirens are one part of a comprehensive system to alert people in the Liverpool Township area of any emergency situations that might arise. The second part of the warning system is a reverse 911 feature activated by the Medina County EMA. Any resident or business can sign up for the reverse 911 notifications and can pick the way in which the information is received. You can have it dial your home phone, your cell phone, your computer or any combination of the three. Information on signing up for the reverse 911 system can be found under the “links” section of our website at www.valleycityfire.com or the Medina County EMA website at www.ema.medinaco.org. You may also call them at 330 722-9240 and sign up over the phone. The new sirens will be tested every month on the first Saturday at 12 noon. They will be set off by the sheriff's dispatchers using remote controls. This test will be advertised each month prior to them being set off.

Fire Department was on the scene working and requested us to respond since the fire was in our jurisdiction. The original call came into Strongsville Police Department due to the cell phone coverage in the area. Strongsville then called Lorain County 911 who dispatched Columbia Twp. Fire Department. The fire was controlled within one hour. Crews from Valley City remained on the scene until 9:30am. There were no injuries. The homeowners were on vacation at the time of the fire.
