The Montgomery County Fire Fighters Pipe Band is looking for new student and booster members. To be eligible as a student member of this corporation, applicants must currently be, or have retired as, a Montgomery County Firefighter or EMT, Police Officer, Sheriff’s Deputy, Rockville City Police Officer, City of Takoma Park Police Officer, Gaithersburg City Police Officer, or a Maryland State Trooper or Maryland National Capitol Area Park Police Officer that routinely serves within Montgomery County. All active or retired Firefighters or EMT’s must fall within the guidelines of the IECS system posted by the MCFRS Fire Chief. All members must be in good standing within their respective department, or, if retired, must have been in good standing within their respective department at the time of his/her retirement.

The members of the pipe band would like to stress the commitment that will be necessary from the student member. Student members will be responsible for purchasing their own instruments, items that do not come cheap. Students are required to practice their instruments on a daily basis. The band practices once a week at the Independent Fire Company in Frederick from 6-9 pm Wednesday nights. Although student members do not have voting rights, they are expected to attend membership meetings as well as assisting with fund raising events.

Individuals who have a desire to contribute to the band but do not wish to be a performing member, are not required to meet the requirements for student membership. Such members are referred to as booster members. Booster members play a logistical role in the band, such as assisting at fund raisers, carrying the bands banner at parades, preparing meals at large events, etc. Booster members are eligible for band furnished equipment and travel funds, however they do not have voting rights within the organization.

If you are interested in joining, please feel free to attend a practice, meet our members, and to get any questions you may have answered. Please contact our Pipe Major or Drum Sergeant and arrange your attendance to a practice or answer any questions you may have beforehand.

Individuals who are interested in either student or booster membership are required to submit an application and a $50.00 application fee to the secretary of the band. Additionally, applicants are required to obtain written sponsorship from a minimum of 2 active or charter members of the band before they will be considered for membership. The application fee will be returned if membership is not granted within 90 days of the receipt of a completed application form and written sponsorship letters.

Please click on the link below to download an application. All completed applications and fees must be forwarded to the band secretary.
